Many consider this cover one of the finest artistic renderings of a comic book character. The balance of colors range from white to black, and hues of red, gold, purple, pink, greens, and browns. Starting with the castle, notice the windows of the castle are its eyes, the broken parts of the windows are pupils, the gate is its toothy mouth. Spooky tree branches are reaching out from the castle like its arms to try to catch Felix and his two midget buddies who are running away – – each with an expression of fear. Notice that the artist gave each character a different face of fear. Do you see how the artist put red shading on the little bit of tongue and rounded out the eye area? Even the eyes are classic “pie” eyes, typical of the 1940s comic style. The moon itself has the rich Art Deco gold colors. The grass nearest the moon is green, as the shade of grass darkens toward the foreground. Purple shadows run before the backlit characters.
